Friday Finds, October 21st, 2011.

Halloween has reached Burlington. Tons of posters of Halloween parties, bar specials, parades, and costume contests seem to envelop this town. No idea what I will dress up as in a week or so. Ideas?

Here’s what I’ve found this week…

-ABC’s new show, Once Upon a Time, is a must see. It starts on Sunday and you can watch the first episode here and follow on Twitter, @OnceABC…I realized earlier today that I tweeted about the wrong show. There is another fairy tale show on NBC, called Grimm. Whoops.

-I’ve started washing my face with products from Kate Somerville. You can get your own skin health evaluation for your own personal regimen.

-Amazing excerpt via Tumblr from The Long Goodbye by Richard Chandler. Have you found me on Tumblr? My school tumblr? Yes, personal promotion…

-A favorite from when the Disney channel use to show actual animations from the 1950s, and 60s. Happy birthday, Mary Blair.


Man in Black

Over six million hits. This Volkswagen commercial hit the Internet yesterday(I believe) and it has spread like wildfire. Have you seen it? Superbowl XLV is this Sunday, and already companies are airing commercials. This doesn’t make me want to go out and get a Passatt, but kudos to VW for creating a memorable ad. Star Wars means a lot to people–I can’t form words to describe it.
To this child of the 80s/90s, Darth Vader was “the man in the big, black boots.” I would hide behind a recliner in our old Germantown house when I heard his theme music come on and all I could see was his boots. He scared the beejeezus out of me. I loved the Ewoks, thought Jabba the Hutt was gross, and wanted to be Luke’s buddy. It’s a movie series you can’t miss, and I amazed by the amount of people that I meet that have never seen these films, or get any references. Who are you?

A lot of the news that I have been reading today(besides news on Nashville, oil spill, and trying to win tickets to Memphis BBQ fest), are a lot of Best of…or Top 10…whatevers. A blog that I read daily is USA Today’s Pop Candy. One post was 25 Most Epic Ads EVERRRRR…

No more teachers, no more books, no more dirty looks…

Spring classes for me are OVAH. Submitted my final paper last night to my professor. I am getting my Master’s in Educational Media, with a concentration in New Media and Global Education from Appalachian State University. All online. It’s been a fun adventure-not have to go to a traditional classroom, with a traditional teacher, and with traditional books. Using synchronous and asynchronous tools(oooooh, big words. Look them up) to communicate with classmates and my professors are methods I wouldn’t have dreamed two years ago I would be using to get a Master’s(Skype, web 2.0 apps, instant messaging).

Aren’t we supposed to be sitting in desks with notebook paper furiously writing a la Mr. Testaverde from Saved by the Bell?? (wish I could find a clip, but alas, can’t.)

Just ready for May 2011 to be here and can begin to use my degree even more. Whatever that means.
